Safari Overview

The Half-Day Standard Safari is our signature and most popular wildlife tour in Udawalawe National Park. With a thriving population of over 600 wild Asian elephants, Udawalawe is universally regarded as the premier destination in Asia for guaranteed, close-range elephant herd observations.

You can choose between two exceptional daily departures: the Dawn Morning Safari (05:45 AM - 10:00 AM), ideal for crisp morning lighting, active watering hole gatherings, and bird songs, or the Afternoon Sunset Safari (02:30 PM - 06:15 PM), world-famous for large family herds bathing in the reservoir under dramatic golden hour skies.

Morning Session (05:45 AM)

Cool temperature, low human traffic, prime active feeding hours for elephant mothers with newborn calves, and exceptional birds of prey activity.

Afternoon Session (02:30 PM)

Elephants emerge from deep thorn scrub into reservoir waters for bathing rituals, social playtime, and magnificent golden-hour photography.
